Important Update: 2026 Therapy Rate Changes at Steffen Counseling Services

At Steffen Counseling Services, we’re committed to providing accessible and high-quality mental health care for our Seattle and Portland communities. To continue offering excellent support for both clients and our dedicated therapy team, we’ll be updating our session rates effective April 13th, 2026. In this post, we’ll more about these upcoming therapy rate changes and answer questions you may have.

What’s Changing?

Starting April 13th, clients paying privately for sessions will notice a small adjustment in our fees for associate and fully licensed providers:

  • Intake Sessions – Updated rate: $175 per session

  • Individual, Couple, Family, or Sex Therapy Sessions – Updated rate: $165 per session

These changes reflect the continued growth, advanced training, and expanding expertise of our clinicians, as well as rising operational costs that support the sustainability of our practice. By updating our rates, we ensure that Steffen Counseling Services can continue delivering ethical, high-quality, and accessible care.

Our practice offers a wide range of therapy services—including individual, couples, family, EMDR, and sex therapy—provided by highly trained clinicians with diverse specialties. This breadth of expertise allows us to meet clients’ unique needs with professionalism, compassion, and evidence-based care.

What’s Not Changing

We want to be very clear, many clients will not be impacted by these changes.

If You’re Using Insurance

If you are using in-network insurance benefits, your cost will remain the same.

  • Your copay and deductible are determined by your insurance plan—not our standard rates
  • The only exceptions are:
    • Late cancellations
    • No-show fees

Our associate therapists are in-network with select plans (including Premera/BCBS variations), which helps keep therapy accessible for many clients.

If You’re Seeing (or Want to See) a Clinical Intern

There are no changes to our clinical intern program. Clients working with our interns can continue to access therapy through our low-cost sliding scale or with Molina Insurance, keeping care affordable and flexible for those with financial considerations.

If you’ve been thinking about starting therapy but worry about affordability, sessions with a clinical intern offer an excellent opportunity to begin working with a trained therapist-in-progress under professional supervision.

Why Are Rates Increasing?

We believe in transparency. By adjusting our rates, we’re able to:

  • Support clinician growth, supervision, and retention
  • Maintain high-quality, ethical care standards
  • Continue offering lower-cost options (like our intern program)
  • Sustain long-term access to therapy services

We know rate updates can raise questions, and we want our existing and new clients to feel fully supported through this transition. Our admin team is here to help you understand how this change might affect your care, or explore available therapy options that meet your needs and budget.
